1. May Through August Is Tourist Season

May through August is tourist season; it is busy, hot, and full of activity. A great time to visit is from November to April, when the temperatures cool down a bit and it is much less crowded.

2. The Temperatures Fluctuate

According to US Climate Data, though the climate and average temperatures are mild, it can still can get cool at night, so pack lots of layers. The coldest months are December and January, when it is in the low 60s, and the hottest months are July and August, when the temperatures average in the low 90s.

Depending on when you plan to visit the Gulfport region, it could be important to know that hurricane season is August through October. This is when you will find the Gulfport slow and rates low, though the weather can be difficult to predict.

4. You Can Enjoy the Beach

There are some legends and stories that the area is haunted. There are reports of supernatural activity at Keesler Air Force Base and the Cabana Courtyard Apartments, in nearby Biloxi. Check online for tours of these haunted sights, if interested.

7. It Is the Second Largest City in Mississippi

Gulfport is the secondlargest city in Mississippi, second to the capital of Jackson. This city is home to around 72,000 residents; while it is considered a major city in the state, it also has some small-town flavor, too.

8. There Is Plenty to See

This region is rich in history, with plenty to see while you are here. Check out the national parks and historic sites, like battlegrounds. There are plenty of tours to give you a bird's-eye view of the city and spectacular sights.
